Most businesses today have websites. As a business's virtual address, a website has a significant impact on a business's success in the digital arena, and if your website is built and designed right, it can't fail to attract visitors and encourage engagement with your existing clients.
But many websites today follow a general pattern, with a home page, an about us page, a contact us page, a page for services or products, and so on.
Whilst this general pattern is part and parcel of every website nowadays, it doesn’t mean you can’t make your website stand out with a few additions.

Come up with your own website content
Even if you're relying on a website designer to build your website for you, it pays to write some of your own website content yourself. If you don't consider yourself a good writer, you can at least write down your basic ideas on what you want your website to say.
You should at least lay the foundation for the content of your site so that even if somebody else will create the content, they will know what to write, and you can get your image and brand across. Whatever your underlying message is, make sure it is adhered to and stated by whoever will write your website's content.
Focus on the benefits for your customers
Business owners often make this common mistake: they tend to focus on telling visitors or customers what they can do, rather than how they can benefit them - as web designers in Bristol we regularly see people fall into this trap.
Of course, you should tell your customers about your services and products, but aside from this, tell them why your services or products can change their lives. For example: will it save them time? Will it help them become organised? Will it save them on expenses? Outline the tangible and intangible benefits and make sure your customers know about it.
Make your website more personal
Whether you have a small business or a medium to large-sized business, your customers and visitors will appreciate putting a face to a name.
In other words, don't be shy about including your photo and the photos of your team on your website.
The thing is, it makes customers more comfortable if they can see who they will be dealing with – it gives the impression of a more personalised, friendlier service, which is an excellent way of engaging your customers and visitors.
Tell your story
If you want your customers and visitors to feel more connected and engaged with your business, you can also tell your story.
Tell them how and when you started out, why you built a business in the first place, and cite examples, if you can, of something that happened or what you have gone through as a business. People love stories, and if you tell yours in your website, this can definitely encourage engagement and foster an instant connection.
